The Heartland

Date: Monday May 30

We've been rolling through the heartland on our way to a rendezvous with another son and daughter-in-law. The State of Illinois charged us $6.75 in tolls today, but that was nothing compared with the $23 that Indiana charged us to roll across their highway 80, which is in extremely extremely bad shape. Ohio wanted another $9.75 to go halfway across the state.  The problem is that we have 4 axles, counting the Saturn that we're towing.  I tried to convince one tollbooth operator that the Saturn was just some guy who'd been following us much too closely, but she wasn't buying it. The price of gas was over $4 per gallon on that highway. We've got a 55 gallon tank, so you do the math.  And if you want another even more depressing math problem, consider that with the Saturn in tow, we've only been getting between eight and nine mpg !

We have been on the road for a month today. We are spending the night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot, about an hour north of Columbus, OH, where we met Mark and Cristin for dinner. After cocktails in the RV, we all enjoyed the good home cooking. It's certainly not gourmet, but it's consistent and tasty.  And for $45 for the four of us it's "such a deal."

AND GUESS WHAT???? MARK AND CRISTIN ARE EXPECTING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotcha!  It's Puppies! This weekend they become the proud parents of not one but TWO Boston Terriers named Tater and Chip.  See their beautiful new babies below!
